Bluing consists in generating an oxide layer on the parts’ surfaces, mainly of steel. It covers and protects them, improving metal properties such as corrosion resistance.
Blued pieces acquire a beautiful aesthetic appearance, with a very fine semi-gloss blue black color.
This type of finish is an excellent protection alternative, where there are narrow dimensional tolerances. This occurs because it doesn’t alter the dimensions of the pieces to be coated.
Bluing and its advantages
Bluing is mainly applied to steel that doesn’t have a high amount of carbon. It also protects the surface of the metal against corrosion and acquires a black color due to oxidation in a controlled manner.
